Logic and Rationality Essay Competition

The Competition

Each year, we host LREC via two components: a conference and an essay competition. The conference portion of LREC provides seminars and guest speaker workshops with the aim of improving argumentative writing skills and providing a broader understanding of some philosophical topics. Through the argumentative essay writing contest, students will have the opportunity to critically analyze ethical dilemmas and form an individual stance on them. Submitted papers undergo an intensive review process that lasts for multiple rounds; judging panels feature adjudication from university professors and graduate students. Resources such as rubrics and argumentative writing structures are provided to all participants. The competition is free to submit to, and cash prizes are available for competition winners.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

One of the most important priorities of the Status Quo Project is having accessible opportunities for all youth, regardless of socioeconomic status. We strongly believe that cost should not be a prohibitive factor in accessing education and opportunity. As a result, LREC is 100% free of charge.
